How to Choose a Living Room Rug Size
- Small seating area: a 5×7 ft or 5×8 ft rug fits neatly under the coffee table.
- Front legs on the rug: a 6×9 ft or 8×10 ft rug suits most sofas and armchairs and visually connects the furniture.
- All furniture on the rug: choose a large area rug of 9×12 ft or more for open-plan living rooms.
- Exact fit: choose Custom size and enter your width and length.

Living Room Rug FAQs
Quick answers about sizes, timing and orders.
What size rug do I need for my living room?
Most living rooms suit a 5×8 ft, 6×9 ft or 8×10 ft rug, with at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs on it. Open-plan rooms often need 9×12 ft or more so all the furniture sits on the rug.
Should a living room rug go under the sofa?
Ideally the front legs of the sofa and armchairs rest on the rug, which connects the seating area. If your room is small, a 5×7 ft rug in front of the sofa and under the coffee table also works well.
Do you make round or shaped living room rugs?
Yes. Many of our abstract designs are hand cut into wavy, scalloped or free-form shapes. Shaped rugs are measured across their widest points.
How long does a made-to-order rug take?
About 6–8 weeks in total. We email your design preview within 1–3 business days, tuft and finish your rug in 4–5 weeks after you approve it, then ship it by tracked courier (about 2 weeks to the USA, 2–3 weeks elsewhere).
Can I change the colours of a design?
Yes. Use Customize This Rug on any product, or email etuftedrugs@gmail.com with your colours. You will see them in your design preview, and nothing is made until you approve it.
Can I cancel or return a rug?
You can cancel for a full refund within 48 hours of ordering. Because every rug is made for you, change-of-mind returns are not accepted. If your rug arrives damaged or different from your approved design, we will work with you on a resolution. See our refund and returns policy for details.
